Google review not showing up? Why reviews disappear, and how you'd know.

She can see the review she wrote. The owner and the next customer can't, and nobody told either of them why.
She can see the review she wrote. The owner can't, and nobody told him why.
A customer told you they left a review and it isn't there. Or your count dropped by one and a good review disappeared. Most of the time, Google removed it for breaking a policy. The rest of the time it's still in Google's check, which can take a few days, or Google isn't publishing reviews on your profile right now. Google's pages describe no note to you, which is why it feels strange. The only exceptions they name are when you appealed the review yourself, reported extortion, or Google is restricting your profile.
Why is a Google review not showing up?
Usually because Google removed it for a policy reason. It can also still be in Google's check, or Google may have turned reviews off for the profile. Google's help page on missing reviews lists those three and a few more. Every new review goes through a policy check that can take a few days. If you merged two Business Profiles recently, the reviews from both profiles can take a few days to show on Search and Maps. If Google recently reinstated your profile, some reviews can go missing, and Google's advice is to contact support. A customer on an old phone or an old version of Google Maps can have trouble leaving the review at all. And Google sometimes turns reviews off for certain profiles or whole business categories.
An old Maps app is the odd one out, because the review may never have reached Google.
Where did it go?
Google's wording, unedited
Here's how Google opens its page for owners.
There are several reasons why reviews might be missing from your profile. Usually, reviews are removed for policy violations like spam or inappropriate content.
Google Business Profile Help, About missing or delayed reviews
How long does a Google review take to show up?
Google's answer is a few days, and that's the only timing it publishes. It says the policy check can take a few days and can delay a review's appearance on your profile. A merge gets the same "a few days." If you've read that reviews post in an hour or two, that number isn't Google's.
What about a review that shows up for the person who wrote it and not for anyone else? Probably the check is still running. The writer can see their own review before the public can. That's our reading. Google's help pages don't describe it.
Did Google remove the review, or did it never publish?
Compare who can see it. If it's showing for the reviewer and not on the public listing, our best guess is that it's still in the check. It can also mean Google removed it for a policy violation, because Google says those can stay visible to the person who wrote them. If nobody sees it and other new reviews are going up, Google probably removed it. If nothing new is going up at all, Google names two causes: reviews turned off for the profile or its category, or a restriction on the profile.
The writer sees it, the public doesn't.
Our best guess: still in Google's check, which can take a few days. Or removed for a policy violation and still visible to its writer.
Nobody sees it, other reviews are posting.
Google probably removed it for a policy reason.
Nothing new is posting.
Google names two causes: reviews turned off for the profile or category, or a restriction on the profile.
For removals, Google's Maps user-generated content policy says it uses people and machine learning together. Its automated models remove some content outright and send the rest to trained staff to look at. Google emails you an appeal's result, shows a report's status in the Maps app, and tells you the result of an extortion report. Otherwise none of Google's help pages mention telling the owner when a review comes down. The one notice they mention that you didn't start is an email before Google restricts a profile.
The disabled case is Google's call. The missing-reviews page says Google can temporarily turn off reviews for certain profiles or business categories. The Maps policy adds that Google can suspend user content for specific places, areas, or categories to counter a spike in policy-breaking content. It doesn't say what that does to reviews already posted.
Why did my Google reviews disappear?
Usually Google removed them for a policy reason. If several went at once, Google may have acted on the whole profile instead of one review at a time. That can be a restriction or a reinstatement.
A restriction can unpublish a profile's existing reviews for a set period, and Google emails the owner before it applies one. So check your email for that notice first. And if Google recently reinstated your profile, Google's missing-reviews page says some reviews might be removed along the way.
A single good review that's gone can have a plainer explanation, and Google's missing-reviews page doesn't list it. The person who wrote it can delete it. Google's help page on editing and deleting Maps reviews says a review stays up until its writer takes it down. That's their decision, not Google's and not yours.
What you can fix
Which missing-review causes can an owner fix, and which are Google's?
Five are on your side: a recent merge, an old Maps app, a wrong category, a restriction, and a reinstated profile. Policy removals and reviews Google has switched off are Google's. Here are yours, the way Google describes them.
- A recent merge. Give it a few days.
- A customer on an old version of Maps. Google's advice is to update the app.
- A wrong category. Google removed and turned off reviews on profiles categorized as general schools for students aged 6 to 18. If that category doesn't describe your business, Google's tip is to change it.
- A Fake Engagement restriction. Google's restrictions page says it can stop a profile from getting new reviews, or unpublish its existing reviews, for a set period. It emails the owner first, and the owner can appeal the restriction through Google's form. Google's rule against fake engagement is the policy behind it.
- A reinstated profile. If reviews went missing after Google reinstated it, Google says to contact Business Profile support.
If you're wondering whether you can switch reviews off yourself, that's a different question, and turning off Google reviews answers it.
One more case comes from an owner, not from Google. On the Local Search Forum in January 2026, an owner described a security hold after a review extortion attempt. Real reviews from real customers stopped publishing. By the time the owner wrote the thread, the hold had been extended again and again, with no end date given. That's one account, not documented Google behavior. If someone has demanded money over a review, read up on review extortion on Google first.
Will Google restore a review it removed?
Google's pages don't give one answer. The missing-reviews page says reviews removed for policy violations won't be restored. The reporting page says Google's automated spam detection sometimes removes legitimate reviews by mistake, and to contact Business Profile support if that happens. And Google's report status list includes "Content restored," for content Google put back after new information came in. Those cover different cases. Google doesn't say which one is yours, and we can't either. We won't give you odds on getting a review back.
Or have us analyze it
See what your profile shows right now.
Put in your business name and we'll analyze every bad review on it against Google's written policies. Each one gets a verdict.
The analysis reads reviews at 2★ and below with at least ten characters of text, as they sit on Google today. So it can't find a review that's already gone. It tells you which of the ones still up have grounds for removal. When there are no grounds, that's the answer. Also free.
No email. No account. The answer is free either way.
Each review comes back with one of three:
Strong grounds for removalPossible grounds for removalNo grounds for removal

Knowing when it changes
How would you know a review changed?
By looking, or by having something look for you. Google lets you know how your own reports, appeals, and extortion reports turn out, and it emails you before a restriction. Beyond that, its help pages don't mention telling the owner when a review is removed, restored, or held back. The count moves and the rating moves, and that's all you see.
Our Monitoring checks your Business Profile every day. When a new review of 2★ and below with at least ten characters of text shows up, we analyze it when we find it, so the alert you get carries the verdict, not just the review. Once a week you get an all-clear with the work shown. It's $39 a month per Business Profile, month-to-month, and what Monitoring watches and costs has the rest. There's also a free watch. It checks one profile weekly, on the same 2★-and-below rule, and emails you the verdict when it finds a new one. No account.
One honest limit. Monitoring watches the bad side. It doesn't track your good reviews, so it won't tell you a five-star went missing. If you want to see how the analysis and the minding work, it's one page, and the analysis's published precision says how our verdicts were tested.
Other situations
Why isn't my Google review showing to other people? (for reviewers)
If you can see your review and other people can't, our best guess is that it's still in Google's check, which can take a few days. It could also have been removed. Google says a review removed for a policy violation can still show on your own Maps profile, marked "Not posted," "Private," or similar. If Google removed it, most likely the review broke one of Google's content rules. Google says its spam filter sometimes takes down real reviews by mistake, too. It also removes content for Terms of Service or legal reasons. Google asks that a review be based on your own experience at the place. It removes fake engagement. It also removes advertising, personal information, off-topic commentary, and profanity. The Google review policies pages cover each of those rules in plain words. Google also says it generally removes the whole post when one part breaks a rule, so a photo can take the review down with it.
If you think Google got it wrong, Google has a page called "Appeal Maps user-generated content policy enforcement actions." That appeal goes to Google, not to the business and not to us. If you want to know whether we hold a copy of your review, write to support@ratingminder.com. We answer within one business day. We'll tell you what we hold and delete our copy if you ask, except a snapshot attached to an open appeal, which we keep for the life of that appeal. We never discuss the owner's appeal with you.
What if the review that disappeared was a negative one?
Then most likely Google removed it, and it can come back. "Content restored" is one of the statuses Google shows in the Maps app's Reports section for a review you reported. If a bad review returns, your next step is a new report. You get one appeal per review, ever, so a returned review never gets a second appeal. If we prepared the appeal, the monitoring included with your appeal watches a removed review for at least 30 days, and if it comes back we tell you and set up the new report for you to file.
If the bad review is still up, the question changes. Does it break a policy? Start with whether a Google review can be removed. Already reported it and Google said no? Read appealing a Google review decision for the one appeal you get. For the whole thing from the report onward, see how removing a bad Google review works, and there are other ways to dispute a Google review besides. Or put in your business name above, and we'll tell you which of your reviews have grounds.
Common questions
How do I contact Google about a missing review?
Through Business Profile support. Google's help pages send owners there in two cases: reviews that went missing after a profile was reinstated, and real reviews Google's spam filter removed by mistake. For a review removed for a policy violation, Google's missing-reviews page says it won't be restored.
Why can't customers leave a review on my business right now?
Either Google has turned reviews off for your profile or category, or your profile is under a restriction. If only one customer has trouble, an old version of Google Maps is the likelier cause.
Can you tell if someone deleted a Google review?
Not directly. Google's help pages describe no notice to the owner when a reviewer deletes their review, so usually all you see is the count go down by one.
